About John
John Knotts is a strategic business advisor with over 25 years of experience in military, non-profit, and commercial leadership and consulting. He has an extensive background in strategy, change, process, leadership, management, human capital, training and education, innovation, design, and communication. He believes strongly in a holistic and no-nonsense approach to establishing operational excellence.
A 21-year Air Force Veteran and former consultant with the top-rated consulting firm, Booz | Allen | Hamilton, John recently held several strategic roles with the United Services Automobile Association (USAA). John also owns his own consulting business, Crosscutter Enterprises, with which he has sharpened the saw since retiring from the Air Force in 2008. He has been very involved in several nonprofit organizations since the early 1990s.
John is currently a Doctoral student in the field of Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He holds a Master’s Degree in Quality Systems Management from National Graduate School and his Bachelor’s is in Management from American Military School. He has a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt from Smarter Solutions, a Master’s-level certification as a Change Management Advanced Practitioner from Georgetown University, and Change Management certification from Prosci. Additionally, he has had extensive training and education in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), project management, and agile methodologies.
John boasts an extensive writing, speaking, facilitating, and teaching background. In the Air Force, he was instructor certified, and taught hundreds of classes in many various areas. He is an Advanced Toastmaster with years of experience in ten different clubs in Europe and the United States. John is also a fully certified Master Speechwriter, studying under Joan Detz, professional speechwriter and coach. As a Master Black Belt, he has developed and trained countless process improvement and process management courses. For both National Graduate School and Hallmark University, John has been an Adjunct Professor. John has a previously published fictional novel, One Dead Marine, and has also been an avid blogger. In January, he will release his first business book, Overcoming Organizational Myopia: Breaking Through Siloed Organizations.
John and his wife, Lori, enjoy horses, golf, reading, writing, and traveling. Together, they own Fine Print Farms, an Equestrian Eventing Destination in the Texas Hill Country. They also are the founders of two equine-related nonprofits. The first is Hill Country Eventing Foundation, designed to support and promote the equestrian sport of Eventing in the Texas Hill Country and all South Texas. The second, a passion of Lori and John’s, is Reckless Rangers Veteran’s Equitherapy. Through this program, they provide free equine-based learning and therapy to veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress.
